Using a research-proven silage inoculant will help you reduce dry matter losses, improve feed value, optimize feed intake and lower potential risk for animals.

Forage crops harvested for silage naturally contain both “good” and “bad” microorganisms. Silage inoculants contain live bacteria and are sometimes combined with enzymes. Bacteria are applied to inoculate freshly harvested forage with “good” microorganisms.

  • Lactic acid producing bacteria (LAB) help preserve the crop
  • Clostridia, enterobacteria, bacilli, yeast and molds are bad microorganisms that can negatively affect the quality of the silage
  • Enzymes, when present, improve fiber digestibility and increase the soluble sugar content for the “good” bacteria

What does a properly selected inoculant do?

Why use MAGNIVA?BenefitsWhy it matters?
Quickly drives fermentation, lowering the pHPreserves silage by inhibiting undesirable bacteriaEnsures forage nutrient and energy levels at harvest are maintained during feedout
Reduces ammonia levels by inhibiting protein-degrading bacteria in silage such as ClostridiaMaintains protein levels to preserve feed
quality
Better silage feedout value and improved palatability
Reduces dry matter losses by quickly preserving
the silage
Inhibiting undesirable bacteria means
less silage is lost through poor fermentation
More silage available to feed through reduced shrinkage
Improves aerobic stability by more than 15 days
by inhibiting yeasts and molds, the
microorganisms responsible for silage heating
and spoilage
Stable silage through feedout means less waste and maintained energy and nutrient levels- More silage to feed due to less waste
- Silage quality maintained
- Reduced need for purchased feed
Improved aerobic stability after just 15 days – This means more management flexibility Stable silage,
less waste, maintained energy
levels and more flexibility
Can use silage when required without a loss of quality or stability
Reduced levels of undesirable bacteriaBetter overall silage quality with maintained energy and nutrient levels- Better more palatable feed, and better feed efficiency
- More milk and beef
